About Adaptive Clothing

Have you heard the term "adaptive clothing?" It is clothing that is designed to make dressing easy for individuals who require help from others to get dressed or who are unable to self-dress. The issues involved may be physical, medical, cognitive or sensory; and long-term, short-term or progressive.

Sometimes referred to as “fashion inclusive dressing“ or “adaptive design,” adaptive clothing includes clothing made with zippers with pull tabs, Velcro® closures in place of buttons, magnetic buttons, adjustable hems and elastic waists, and stretchable fabrics with openings at the shoulders, back and sides that make dressing easier and make it possible to cover casts and braces. Some adaptive designs include spine-length back zippers on jumpsuits to deter individuals from undressing or stripping; concealed openings for abdominal access, and two-angled front zippers for access to chest ports.

There is a huge void in the fashion world. Individuals who are differently-abled find it difficult to find clothing to wear. Adaptive clothing currently on the market tends to be unimaginative, non-stylish, bulky, and hard to find.

UNDERCARE® products are at the forefront of adaptive on-trend fashion for the underserved market of the differently-abled.

If you look good, you feel good. Feeling comfortable in your clothes boosts confidence and self-esteem. Even underwear affects the way we feel about ourselves. Innerwear (or intimates) can exert a powerful influence on our self-perception and confidence levels. Getting dressed can be a satisfying, body confidence-building experience.

Some people think that creating clothing for the differently-abled involves a compromise but it doesn’t. It is no different than producing plus sizes, petites, and maternity clothing.

Self-worth and self-esteem are frequently tied to our ability to take care of ourselves.

UNDERCARE’s® easy-on, easy-off undergarments wrap around your body and fasten with soft and flexible Velcro® tabs. It is washable and reusable. Once on, you can pull it up and down in one piece. It looks, feels, and functions like traditional underwear. You do not need to put your feet and legs through a leg opening. No bending, standing on one leg, or balancing required. You can put it on standing up, lying down, or sitting.

Look for our unfolding portfolio of adaptive designs. We have briefs and boxers for men and women currently on sale. Our bathing suit line is coming soon, as well as our athletic shorts.

Whether you are in a cast, an amputee, become dizzy from bending over and coming up from medications, recovering from surgery, in a wheelchair, or have any other mobility-challenging issue, UNDERCARE® is here!

We are not an incontinence product but it is very easy to “add a pad” if needed.
